GREG BONHAM -
vocal entertainer
........a HOT Australian taking on the American market.
To those who believe that Wagga Wagga is a euphonymous part
of the great Australian mythology, it is encouraging to find someone
who was actually born there. Greg was raises in his father's
sheep farm with two brothers and two sisters and from the age
of eleven was fronting the Bonham kids own band, but a network
talent quest called "Showcase", which he won hands
down, was soon to bring him national recognition...and Greg Bonham's
solo career has begun.
Greg decided to seriously study music
and finally he scored top honours at Sydney's conservatorium
of music. With the farm far behind him, and now based in Sydney,
young Greg gained invaluable experience in the vast club scene
and quickly became a major television artist. Many successful
tours throughout Asia followed, including Tokyo, Hong Kong and
Singapore... starring in Hilton Hotels and entertaining U.S.
military personnel. The ten year period bases in Sydney armed
Greg with seven single recordings, a live album at Sydney's spectacular
Opera House and over 150 national television appearances...but
finally ambition urged him overseas, to England.
Working out of London, Greg immediately generated substantial
interest in the entertainment industry and his reviews at the
West End's swinging London Room secured his reputation in the
tough English market. The three weeks "trial run season" at
the London Room resulted in a further one hundred and twenty
weeks, bringing him prestige and recognition.... to be eightened
further by his Russian success that followed.
A striking example of his ability to communicate was demonstrated
as he starred in four, ten city concert tours of the Soviet Union.
Night after night huge audiences, many in excess of seven thousand,
stamped and shouted for more. The screening of his own TV specials
and sales of over 14 million records have made Greg the hottest
property to emerge from the West....attaining superstar status
on the Eastern block.
Back in the U.K. it became obvious that he must begin to write
his own songs...several recordings were made in London, including
a trumpet album, complete with a 30 piece orchestra. (Yes, Gregis
a 'mean' horn player). TV appearances included "Seaside
Special" and his own half hour Special screened across the
country.
After five years in England, an Engagement in Miami Florida
brought Greg to the U.S.A. Merv Griffin introduced him to American
television audiences, leading to major booking throughout the
country....from the Concord Hotel in Upstate N.Y. to Atlantic
City's Resort International Hotel, where Greg regularity shares
the bill with Don Rickles and Dom Deloiuse.
In the movies ? You'll be hearing contemporary rock songs, written
and produced by the talented Aussie, in two feature motion pictures..."Primal
Rage" and "Welcome Spring
Break", due for 1989 release.
The big screen will soon be a vehicle for Greg's acting style....!
"Songwriting and producing good records is where a lot
of my energies lie now, and thanks to my friends in the movie industry,
I'll prove I can do as well as the next guy... or maybe even
better", Greg says.
Leisure time is fishing time, especially now, from his new waterfront
home on North Miami Beach, which he shares with his wife, Liz
and daughter Rebel.
