Terry was born in
Hamilton,
Ohio, and at the
of five his family migrated to Marion, Indiana. He began taking
piano lessons at the age of ten and discovered his natural talent
for playing by ear. His Father was pastoring a church and Terry
began playing in his fathers church. He soon started singing
and playing with various gospel groups and by the age of thirteen
had his own gospel group and recorded their first album that
year.
During his senior year in high school Terry started working
at the local Holiday Inn as a porter/busboy. There was a piano
bar in the lounge featuring a wonderful entertainer named Phyllis
Dale. Terry was so impressed by the intimacy and excitement
of the piano bar that it planted a seed that took twenty years
to grow, one of his greatest life goals became to someday be
a piano bar entertainer.
After high school Terry began working as music director in
various churches. In 1986 he moved to St Petersburg, Florida,
where he went into hotel management, but eventually made his
dream of being a piano bar entertainer come true. He often
worked through entire nights rehearsing and building a repertoire
large enough to start seeking his first piano bar job.
Terry having worked for more than ten years in Indiana as
a piano technician, rebuilt a 5’4” grand piano
and moved it into the lounge at Summers Landing Restaurant
on St Pete Beach, Florida, to finally fulfill his dream of
being on the working side of the piano bar. That first job
was quite a learning experience, but provided him with quite
a few loyal listeners, many of which followed him through several
years of various piano bars. Terry had a natural talent for
the intimate style of piano bar entertainment. The job opportunities
kept coming and Terry’s sensual vocals continued to wipe
away the cares of crowds of people all over the state of Florida.
In 1998 Terry moved to Savannah, Georgia where his first booking
was at Buckley’s Tavern, inside Mary’s Seafood
and Steakhouse. There Terry not only built the piano bar but
gave the lounge it’s name, named after the owner, Mary
Buckley.
Eventually, after about one year at Buckley’s Tavern,
Terry and his partner opened their own elegant piano bar. In
the fall of 2002 Terry had to return to Florida to care for
his aging mother. He than began playing various clubs and private
parties to fill the time while seeking that perfect venue for
his romantic, yet exciting entertainment.
In January of 2006 Terry moved back to his home town of Marion,
Indiana to spend time with his only daughter, Mischa, her husband,
and her three children.
Terry would be an exciting addition to any club desiring tasteful,
sophisticated, elegant entertainment.
